A Salon Grows Downtown
Salon Elizabeth is a full-service salon serving the St. Albans and Downtown community. A few steps away from the heart of the city is where you’ll find this unique gemstone – with a variety of products and services to fit the whole family’s needs.
Tracey Evans-Reed, the owner of Salon Elizabeth, knew she would be a hairdresser since she was only four years old.
“I used to chop the hair on my Barbie dolls into bob cuts with bangs until one day I got ahold of my younger sister’s pig-tails!”Tracey Evans-Reed
Though she was always a hairdresser at heart, she was a mother first. At 31, Tracey was working for another downtown business, a consignment shop.
In the evenings, she was servicing several clients out of her home and thought she was settled in her career when the opportunity arose to buy a closing salon down the street.
Salon Elizabeth Opens Downtown
Tracey opened her first storefront on September 24th, 2004. A small salon right on Main Street to call her own. Well, hers to own. Tracey and her husband decided to name the salon after their only child, Elizabeth.
“I enjoyed those seven years on Main Street immensely, not only could I walk into other shops on breaks, but there was a whole community and network of business owners that really looked out for each other.”Tracey Evans-Reed
The business outgrew its footprint and eventually needed to expand in September 2011.
Salon Elizabeth Makes a Move
Tracey move her business from Main Street to Catherine Street, which still resides in the Downtown district. The move was just a street below her first shop, but there were setbacks to consider;
“I knew the move was needed for my business, but I was uncertain if my business would be hurt without a Main Street storefront.”Tracey Evans-Reed
She says the move was stressful, but that nothing changed. Actually, her business began to bloom. Tracey went from a three-woman business to a 13 woman business. She claims some of that success is due to the work the city has done and continues to do for downtown.
“I’ve been blessed with a consistent clientele, and I’m looking forward to keeping the traffic flowing through downtown with all the infrastructure changes to come. We have all put in a lot of work to revitalize St. Albans to how it is today – I hope we can keep up that momentum!”Tracey Evans-Reed
Salon Elizabeth Offers a Service for Everyone… and They Mean It

Salon Elizabeth Brings Sustainability To the Beauty Industry
“As the beauty industry grows, it’s becoming more apparent there is more than just the responsibility to place safe, non-toxic products on clients but also to give them the knowledge to do the same after they leave the salon.”Tracey Evans-Reed
Salon Elizabeth is extensively researching how to offer waste recycling of any hair product or makeup containers and education to the community.
In addition to a number of products they endorse that are cruelty-free and free of:
“Our team is always taking continuing education classes on safer products, eco products, and consistency between the salon and products going out the door to people’s homes.”Tracey Evans-Reed
